All about the journey

Our job at Odyssey is to help you get the most out of running in the way that works best for you. Running with Odyssey means joining a community where people have your back, are looking out for you, and want to see you at your best. That might mean running fast or far, or you might have other goals. But it always means a happy, healthy version of yourself.

Training principles

We combine easy mileage, a threshold focus, core strength, and speed drills in a periodized fashion to build a healthy base of fitness before peaking for goal races with specific sessions designed around your needs. We err on the aerobic side, prioritize recovery and enjoyment, and take a long-term perspective on improvement, preferring consistent, smart work over very hard efforts. Evidence-based training means not just what works in a lab but works for you. There is no one-size-fits-all to questions like double runs, what shoes to wear, and how easy is too easy. Runners respond differently to different training stimuli, and the longer we work together, the more effective your training will become.

Running is simple. People are complex.

The basics of training are straightforward. If there’s a secret to success, it’s treating yourself as more than lungs on legs. The hard part for most of us takes place up in the head, balancing running with who you are and what you want. We’re here to share that journey with you every step of the way.

No matter your goals, our running plans focus on sustainable health and long-term gains. The best runners do very little hard stuff but get their work in every day, avoid injuries, and recover well. That takes patience and vision – but you’re not alone. If you love what you’re doing, the results will come. There’s no wrong way to love running, and we’ll do everything we can to get you there.

Raceday ready

Races are the goals of many of our athletes – often to finish, PR, or win. Races can be painful and scary, so part of our coaching addresses negative thinking and stress management. We’ll monitor that process with your feedback at regular intervals and especially after bigger workouts that simulate race feelings.

A hero needs a guide

Our job is to make our athletes feel secure both in their fitness and in who they are as people. Mileage, strength, mobility, and workouts play a role in reaching goals – but you’ll have a mental edge too. We will help you learn to recognize and respect your needs, to manage emotion and expectation, and to develop your ability to hold a positive headspace in the midst of stress and fatigue.
